second growth
Trees replacing clearcut
Second growth refers to forest or woodland that has regrown after the original trees were cut down or destroyed.
It distinguishes newer, regenerated forest from old-growth or virgin timber that has never been harvested: The trail winds through second growth where loggers cleared the land a century ago.
The term sometimes applies to a secondary crop or harvest from the same planting.
