sayer

One who speaks

A sayer is simply one who says something.

The word appears almost exclusively in compounds or fixed phrases: a naysayer opposes or refuses, a soothsayer predicts the future, and doomsayers warn of impending catastrophe.

On its own, sayer is rare and sounds archaic or stilted, but it remains productive for forming new combinations when needed.
