salesrooms

Where merchandise waits

Salesrooms are spaces where goods are displayed and sold.

The term applies to showrooms in retail or wholesale businesses, and to auction houses where items are presented to bidders: The estate's paintings were moved to the salesroom for appraisal.

British usage favors salesroom; Americans often prefer showroom for retail spaces.
