rubbing compound
Paint finish restorer
Rubbing compound is a mildly abrasive paste used to smooth and polish surfaces, especially automotive paint.
It removes scratches, oxidation, and imperfections by wearing away a thin layer of the finish: I used rubbing compound to buff out the scratch on my fender.
Finer than sandpaper but coarser than polish, it's typically followed by waxing to restore shine.
