rough mix
Unpolished audio draft
A rough mix is a preliminary version of a recorded song, balanced quickly to give artists and producers a working draft before the final mix.
The levels, effects, and spatial placement aren't polished—it's meant for evaluation, not release: Let me send you the rough mix so you can hear where we're headed.
Sometimes a rough mix captures something the final version loses.
