rookie cards
Collectors prize newcomers
A rookie card is a trading card featuring a professional athlete during their first official season, typically in sports like baseball, basketball, or football.
These cards are prized by collectors because they represent a player's earliest appearance in a major card set.
A star player's rookie card often becomes the most valuable card in their collection: His Michael Jordan rookie card is worth thousands.
The term extends to other collectibles marking someone's debut.
