A panning shot is a camera movement where the camera rotates horizontally on a fixed axis, sweeping across a scene from left to right or right to left.
The technique follows action, reveals landscapes, or connects elements within a frame.
Distinct from tracking shots, where the camera itself moves through space, panning keeps the camera stationary while pivoting: The director used a slow panning shot to survey the battlefield.
