rolling stops
Slowing without halting
A rolling stop is slowing down at a stop sign without coming to a complete halt—the vehicle keeps moving, however slowly.
Also called a California stop.
Technically illegal but extremely common: He got a ticket for rolling stops.
The practice treats stop signs as yield signs, checking for cross traffic while decelerating rather than fully stopping.
