brake checking
Sudden stop provocation
Brake checking is the dangerous driving practice of abruptly braking in front of another vehicle, forcing the trailing driver to slam their brakes or swerve.
It's typically done as road rage retaliation against tailgaters: He got so annoyed by the SUV riding his bumper that he brake checked them.
The maneuver risks rear-end collisions and is illegal in most jurisdictions.
