roast comedy
Affectionate public ridicule
Roast comedy is a form of humor built on mocking a specific person, typically someone present and willing to be insulted.
The target sits while friends, colleagues, or comedians deliver increasingly brutal jokes about their appearance, career, or personal life: The celebrity roast got savage when they brought up his divorce.
The format treats affection and insult as inseparable—you roast people you like enough to publicly humiliate.
