rip saws
Lengthwise wood cutters
Rip saws are hand saws designed to cut wood along the grain, as opposed to crosscut saws that cut across it.
The teeth are filed straight across and angled forward, acting like tiny chisels to slice fibers rather than sever them: Use a rip saw to cut boards lengthwise.
The distinction matters less with modern power saws.
