right to sue
Courtroom access privilege
Right to sue is the legal standing to bring a lawsuit.
In employment discrimination, a right-to-sue letter is official notice from a government agency (like the EEOC) that you've exhausted administrative remedies and may now file suit in court: She received her right to sue letter ninety days after filing her complaint.
The phrase sometimes appears more broadly for any legally recognized claim that can be pursued through litigation.
