retrogrades
Slides into decline
Retrogrades is the plural of retrograde, a term most familiar from astrology, where planets in retrograde appear to move backward against the stars.
Mercury retrograde gets blamed for communication mishaps and technological failures.
More broadly, retrograde means moving backward or reverting to an earlier, usually worse state: retrograde policies, a retrograde step for civil rights.
The verb retrograde means to move or appear to move in reverse.
