retail parks

Out-of-town stores

Retail parks are large outdoor shopping areas, typically located on the outskirts of towns, featuring multiple big-box stores, warehouse retailers, and chain restaurants sharing extensive parking facilities.

Unlike enclosed malls, retail parks arrange stores in rows or clusters with direct exterior access.

We drove out to the retail park for the furniture store and stayed for lunch.

The term is primarily British; Americans more often say shopping center or strip mall, though retail parks tend to be larger and more car-dependent than either.
