restored version

Repaired original release

A restored version is a film, recording, artwork, or other work that has been returned to an earlier or original state, typically through careful reconstruction of damaged, degraded, or censored material.

The term appears most often with classic films, where faded footage is cleaned up and missing scenes reintegrated: The restored version includes twenty minutes cut from the theatrical release.

Restored versions often reveal what audiences originally experienced—or what creators intended before studio interference.
