resisting arrest
Refusing police custody
Resisting arrest is the crime of physically opposing or obstructing a police officer who is attempting to make an arrest.
The charge ranges from pulling away or refusing to be handcuffed to actively fighting officers.
Critics note the charge is sometimes added to justify force or levied against people who merely questioned why they were being detained: They beat him, then charged him with resisting arrest.
