rescue organizations
Emergency response teams
Rescue organizations are groups that save and rehome animals, typically dogs and cats, that have been abandoned, abused, or surrendered by owners.
Unlike shelters, which may euthanize animals after a period, rescues usually operate as no-kill operations, often relying on foster networks rather than central facilities.
We adopted our dog from a local rescue organization.
The term also applies to groups that assist humans in emergencies—mountain rescue, sea rescue—though these are more often called rescue teams or services.
