rescue fund

Financial safety net

A rescue fund is money set aside or raised to help someone or something in crisis—whether a failing business, a struggling organization, or individuals facing hardship.

In finance, it often refers to capital assembled to bail out distressed companies or stabilize markets: The government established a rescue fund for banks during the financial crisis.

More informally, it can mean personal savings for emergencies: I keep a rescue fund in case the car breaks down.
