religious offerings
Gifts to deities
Religious offerings are items given to a deity, spirit, or sacred entity as acts of worship, gratitude, or supplication.
These range from food and drink to incense, flowers, money, or animal sacrifice, depending on tradition.
The offering may be burned, placed on an altar, left at a shrine, or otherwise ritually presented: The temple was filled with religious offerings to the harvest goddess.
The practice assumes the divine recipient receives something of value from the gift.
