releasing balloons
Letting latex fly
Releasing balloons is the act of letting go of helium-filled balloons so they float away, traditionally done at celebrations, memorials, or as symbolic gestures.
The practice has fallen out of favor as awareness has grown that balloons eventually fall back to earth as litter, harming wildlife and polluting landscapes: The venue banned releasing balloons after the ceremony.
