regional museum
Area heritage collection
A regional museum focuses on a specific geographic area—a state, province, county, or cultural region—documenting its history, art, natural environment, or heritage.
Unlike national museums with broad mandates, regional museums preserve local identity: The regional museum featured exhibits on the county's coal mining past.
They often serve as community anchors and repositories for artifacts that might otherwise be lost.
