reduplicating
Copying sounds twice
Reduplicating is forming words by repeating sounds or syllables.
English has many reduplicated forms: flip-flop, mishmash, riffraff, wishy-washy.
The pattern appears in baby talk (mama, dada), emphatic expressions (no-no, boo-boo), and playful coinages (okey-dokey).
Languages worldwide use reduplication to signal repetition, intensity, or plurality.
