red rust
Oxidized metal coating
Red rust is a reddish-brown corrosion that forms on iron and steel when exposed to moisture and oxygen—the familiar flaky coating on neglected tools, old cars, or outdoor fixtures.
The term distinguishes common iron oxide from other types of corrosion.
In agriculture, red rust also names fungal diseases causing reddish discoloration on plant leaves: The daylilies showed signs of red rust.
