recloser
Fault-sensing circuit breaker
A recloser is an automatic circuit breaker on power lines that resets itself after detecting a fault.
When a tree branch or animal causes a momentary short circuit, the recloser trips, waits briefly, then restores power—often multiple times before locking out permanently if the fault persists.
This prevents prolonged outages from temporary disturbances: The recloser kicked in after lightning struck the transformer.
