rankness

Quality of stinking

Rankness is the quality of being rank—a word with two main threads of meaning.

One involves intensity or extremeness: the rankness of weeds that grow aggressively, or the rankness of an amateur's obvious incompetence.

The other involves foulness of smell or taste: the rankness of rotting garbage, the rankness of his breath after a night of drinking.

Both senses suggest something unpleasantly excessive or overgrown.
