putridity
State of decomposition
Putridity is the state of being putrid—rotten, decayed, and foul-smelling.
The word applies literally to decomposing organic matter: The putridity of the corpse made the room unbearable.
Figuratively, it describes moral corruption or something thoroughly rotten in character: the putridity of the whole enterprise.
