rambla

Spanish pedestrian boulevard

A rambla is a tree-lined promenade or boulevard, especially in Spain.

The word originally meant a dry riverbed or seasonal watercourse—many such streets were built over former streambeds.

Barcelona's famous Las Ramblas is the most well-known example: We strolled down the rambla past street performers and flower stalls.
