Circular screen trace
A radar sweep is the rotating motion of a radar beam as it scans an area, or the visual representation of this scan on a display—the familiar circular screen with a bright line rotating from the center.
The term extends to any systematic scan of an area: Security conducted a radar sweep of the perimeter.
Figuratively, it describes thorough, methodical searching: She did a quick radar sweep of the room looking for familiar faces.
