r & r

Time off duty

R & R stands for rest and relaxation—time off from work or duty to recover and recharge.

The term originated in military contexts, where soldiers receive periodic R & R away from combat zones: After six months deployed, he finally got some R & R.

Now used broadly for any restorative break: I'm taking the weekend for some much-needed R & R.
