queer literature
Gay and lesbian books
Queer literature encompasses writing by or about LGBTQ+ people—novels, poetry, essays, and drama exploring themes of same-sex desire, gender nonconformity, or sexual identity.
The term reclaims "queer" as an umbrella for non-heterosexual and non-cisgender experience.
The canon ranges from ancient texts reread through a queer lens to contemporary works centering queer lives: She's writing her dissertation on queer literature.
