purfled
Inlaid with decoration
Purfled describes something decorated with an ornamental border, especially in fine metalwork, embroidery, or musical instruments.
A violin is purfled when thin strips of wood are inlaid along its edges, both for decoration and to prevent cracking.
The term appears mainly in descriptions of craftsmanship: a purfled silver chalice, the delicately purfled edges of the mandolin.
