punches out

Ends work shift

Punches out means to clock out of work by stamping a time card, or more broadly, to leave or finish for the day: I punch out at five.

It also means to knock someone unconscious with a punch: He punched out the guy who insulted his wife.

In manufacturing, to punch out is to cut shapes from material using a die or press.
