progress bars
Visual completion trackers
Progress bars are visual indicators showing how much of a task has been completed.
They typically appear as horizontal rectangles that fill from left to right: The progress bar crept toward 100%.
Software uses them during downloads, installations, and file transfers to reassure users that something is happening.
Some progress bars estimate remaining time, though these predictions are notoriously unreliable.
