loading bar

A loading bar is a graphical indicator showing progress toward completion, typically a horizontal rectangle that fills from left to right as a file downloads, software installs, or process completes.

Also called a progress bar.

The filling animation gives users visual feedback that something is happening, though the pace often bears little relation to actual time remaining: The loading bar's been stuck at 99% for ten minutes.
