professional student
Career campus dweller
A professional student is someone who remains in school indefinitely, accumulating degrees or courses rather than entering the workforce.
The term usually carries mild criticism—implying the person is avoiding adult responsibilities or can't commit to a career path: He's been in grad school for eight years—a professional student at this point.
Less commonly, it describes someone whose job is to be a student, such as those paid to attend training programs.
