pressing comb

Hot hair tool

A pressing comb is a heated metal comb used to straighten tightly curled or kinky hair.

The comb is heated on a stove or with electricity, then drawn through sections of hair to temporarily relax the curl pattern.

The technique, also called pressing or hot combing, was widely used by Black Americans before chemical relaxers became common: My grandmother heated her pressing comb on the kitchen stove.
