prebunking
Inoculating against misinformation
Prebunking is the practice of preemptively debunking misinformation before people encounter it.
Rather than correcting false claims after they spread, prebunking warns audiences about manipulation tactics in advance: The campaign prebunked the rumor before it could gain traction.
The approach draws on inoculation theory—exposing people to weakened forms of misleading arguments builds resistance to stronger versions later.
