posthumous pardon
Cleared after death
A posthumous pardon is an official forgiveness of a crime granted after the convicted person has died.
Governments issue these to acknowledge wrongful convictions or to recognize that laws themselves were unjust: Alan Turing received a posthumous pardon for his conviction under anti-homosexuality laws.
The gesture is symbolic—it cannot restore what was lost but formally clears the person's name.
