poster bed
Columned sleeping frame
A poster bed is a bed frame with four tall vertical posts at the corners, originally designed to support a canopy or curtains.
The posts are often decorative, turned or carved.
A four-poster bed is the same thing.
Without a canopy, the posts remain purely ornamental: The antique poster bed dominated the guest room.
