Postdated checks bear a date in the future rather than the date they're written.
The writer intends the check not to be cashed until that later date, often to align with expected funds: She gave him a postdated check for the first of the month, when her paycheck would clear.
Banks may or may not honor the date—policies vary, and recipients sometimes deposit early anyway.
