post hole digger
Fence installer's tool
A post hole digger is a tool for digging narrow, deep holes in the ground to set fence posts, sign posts, or similar vertical supports.
The manual version has two handles attached to opposing curved blades that clamp together to lift soil: We spent the afternoon with the post hole digger, setting posts for the new fence.
Powered versions attach to tractors or operate as standalone augers.
