pop flies

Easy infield catches

Pop flies are baseballs hit high into the air but not far from home plate, typically caught easily by infielders or shallow outfielders.

A pop fly—also called a pop-up—results from the batter hitting under the ball, sending it nearly straight up: He popped out to the shortstop.

The infield fly rule prevents fielders from exploiting pop flies for double plays.
