ground balls
Infielders' routine plays
Ground balls are batted balls in baseball or softball that roll or bounce along the playing surface rather than traveling through the air.
Fielders must scoop them up quickly to make plays: He's great at fielding ground balls.
A batter who hits into a lot of ground balls tends to produce easy outs.
