political action committees

Election funding groups

Political action committees are organizations that raise and spend money to influence elections, typically by supporting or opposing candidates.

Often abbreviated PAC.

They allow corporations, unions, and interest groups to pool contributions: The pharmaceutical industry's political action committees donated millions during the campaign.

Super PACs can raise unlimited funds but cannot coordinate directly with candidates.
