planting zones

Climate gardening maps

Planting zones are geographic regions classified by climate conditions, particularly minimum winter temperatures, to guide gardeners on which plants will survive in their area.

The USDA Hardiness Zone Map divides North America into numbered zones from 1 (coldest) to 13 (warmest): I'm in zone 6, so I can grow most perennials but not citrus.

Plant tags and catalogs indicate suitable zones for each variety.
