pixelations
Mosaic-like image degradation
Pixelations are the visible square blocks that appear when a digital image is enlarged beyond its resolution or compressed too heavily.
The effect makes images look blocky and unclear: The security footage was full of pixelations.
Pixelation is also used deliberately to obscure faces or sensitive content in video: They added pixelations to protect the witness's identity.
