pin bones

Fillet's tiny spines

Pin bones are the small, fine bones found in fish fillets, running in a line from the head end partway down the body.

Unlike the backbone or rib bones, pin bones aren't attached to the skeleton and must be removed individually, usually with tweezers or needle-nose pliers: She ran her finger along the salmon to locate the pin bones before pulling them out.
