physiatrists
Movement restoration doctors
Physiatrists are physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
They diagnose and treat conditions affecting the muscles, bones, nerves, and brain—particularly those causing pain or limiting movement.
Unlike surgeons, physiatrists focus on restoring function through nonsurgical approaches: physical therapy, medication, injections, and assistive devices.
After the stroke, her physiatrist developed a rehabilitation plan to help her regain mobility.
