phrenologists
Cranial map interpreters
Phrenologists are practitioners of phrenology, a discredited 19th-century pseudoscience that claimed to assess personality and mental faculties by measuring the skull's shape and bumps.
The theory held that different brain regions controlled specific traits, and their development affected cranial contours.
The phrenologist ran his fingers over the subject's head, pronouncing him prone to violence.
Now used dismissively for anyone claiming scientific authority for unfounded methods.
