photoallergic
Sun-induced skin reaction
Photoallergic describes a reaction in which skin becomes sensitized to a substance only when exposed to light, typically ultraviolet rays.
Unlike a simple sunburn, a photoallergic response requires both a triggering agent—often a medication, fragrance, or sunscreen ingredient—and sun exposure to produce the allergic reaction.
The rash appeared only on sun-exposed areas where she'd applied the lotion, suggesting a photoallergic response.
The related noun is photoallergy.
